Sun Oct 2nd 2-4.30pm £15 / £12 / £10 / £8 - Searching for the Emerald Tablets of Hermes Trismegistus - Peter Stewart - Thoth, or Hermes Trismegistus was the Being who gave ancient Egypt her science, law, medicine, engineering and her magic. Hermes was the great alchemist and he inscribed his knowledge on the ‘Emerald Tablets’ preserved for posterity and the benefit of the human race. Akhenaten searched for and found them. As a result he launched a monotheistic doctrine which he taught to Moses. At the Exodus Akhenaten gave Moses the tablets which eventually came to King Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem. When Titus sacked Jerusalem he took the Solomonic treasure to Rome. The Emerald Table is depicted on the Arch of Titus. Then the Visigoths sacked Rome and took the Solomonic Treasures to Rennes. The Tablets later came into the possession of the Cathars who hid them after Montsegur. Where are they now? Peter Stewart is a ‘rocket’ scientist and physicist. For 20 years he has been investigating and lecturing on non-local human consciousness - Foundation for Theosophical Studies, 50 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8EA - 020-7935-9261 www.theosophical-society.org.uk
Sun Oct 2nd 6-7.30pm £6/£4 - The Extended Mind: Recent Experimental Evidence - Rupert Sheldrake - We have been brought up to believe that the mind is located inside the head. But there are good reasons for thinking that this view is much too limited. Recent experimental results show that people can influence others at a distance just by looking at them and people’s intentions can be detected by pet animals from miles away. Tests have also shown that people can tell who is calling them before they pick up the phone. Rupert Sheldrake will show how his hypothesis of morphic fields could provide an explanation. Rupert Sheldrake is a biologist and author of more than 75 papers in scientific journals, and several books, notably The Sense at Being Stared At - Foundation for Theosophical Studies, 50 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8EA - 020-7935-9261 www.theosophical-society.org.uk

Are there any rewards? Who are the Masters? Is the whole idea of a path an illusion? Colum Hayward is by turns London minister of the White Eagle Lodge, the owner of a small publishing firm, and a mountaineer. In this talk he draws upon the metaphors of mountaineering to shed light on some of these questions. Some of the answers are unexpected. - Foundation for Theosophical Studies, 50 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8EA - 020-7935-9261 www.theosophical-society.org.uk

Sun Oct 30th 2-4.30pm £15 / £12 / £10 / £8 - Walking between worlds (a) Shamanism, the Psychic & Psychotic (b) Out of Body Experiences - Serena Roney-Dougal - The pineal gland, the seat of our third eye, makes chemicals that are virtually identical to the ayahuasca tea used by Amazonian shamans for out-of-body and clairvoyant experiences. Dr Roney-Dougal’s research explores how these chemicals work, linking them both with our ‘every night’ altered state of consciousness, dreaming, with the psychedelic experience and also with the psychotic ‘breakdown’. In some tribal cultures the experience is understood to be a spiritual initiation and the person becomes the shaman's apprentice, learning to harness their gifts and consciously ‘walk between the worlds’. The out-of-body-experience is central to shamanism and research suggests one in five persons will have this experience Research provides us with a better idea of exactly what it is that links the mind and the body. - Foundation for Theosophical Studies, 50 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8EA - 020-7935-9261 www.theosophical-society.org.uk
Sun Oct 30th 6-7.30pm £6/£4 - The Holographic Universe - Serena Roney-Dougal - The essence of a hologram is that the whole is contained in every part. Thus a holographic universe is one in which the universe can be found in a grain of sand. This is an integral part of the quantum view of matter which is overturning the materialistic and reductionist world-view that has pervaded Western society for the past 300 years ushering in a radical evolutionary shift in consciousness. Serena Roney-Dougal, holds a PhD in parapsychology. She has spent 30 years studying scientific, magical and spiritual aspects of the psyche, and has lectured in this field in America, Europe and India. - Foundation for Theosophical Studies, 50 Gloucester Place, London W1U 8EA - 020-7935-9261 www.theosophical-society.org.uk
